The Cigales D.O., which covers
an area of 2 700 ha, is the smallest wine-growing quality area in
the region of Castilla y león. It is located to the north of
the city of Valladolid at an altitude of 780 metres on the Castilian
plateau. The average annual temperature is 12ºC, with an average
annual rainfall of 350-400 mm and 2 500 hours of sunlight. Once acquired
a
well deserved fame for its rosé wines, the land, the climate
and local red varieties such as tempranillo and garnacha convert Cigales
in
a new and upcoming area for red wines, which has caused very
important investments during the last years. |
