Emeterio Fernández Vineyards and Wineries
are located at La Legua, ancestral lands six kilometres - a league
- from Valladolid. In 1997, after thirty years of work revitalising
and replanting the land combining modern growing techniques with
traditional know-how, Emeterio Fernández decided to build
the current winery on the underground passageways and tunnels of
the old, which had a three hundred year history. The commitment
is to offer a quality red wine with a character and personality
of its own, as part of the Cigales Appellation of Origin, an area
traditionally devoted to rosés. To achieve this, Emeterio
Fernández red wines are made exclusively with carefully selected
and hand picked grapes from La Legua plantation, 80 hectares of
family production reflecting the character of the area: alluvial
soils rich in pebbles with a continental climate influenced by the
Atlantic with sharp changes in temperature, long dry summers as
well as long and harsh winters.
